Moderator: Michelle Burford and the Art of Collaborative WritingOn October 14, 2017, I interviewed the brilliant and accomplished Michelle Burford, a ghostwriter who has helped to pen several New York Times bestselling books, including memoirs for Olympic gold medal gymnasts Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas, Orange Is the New Black actress Diane Guerrero, and former Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown's book Called to Rise. We chatted about working with collaborators under tight deadlines, selling your work, and creating storylines people want to read. A project-based STEAM classroom can be challenging; such settings often feature a broad range of experience and interest levels. During the session, you will learn about frameworks for student assessment in a project-based curriculum. Several rubrics will be presented and content will be geared toward 9-12 (but may apply to other grade bands). In addition, participants will take part in a hands-on activity in which they design electronic elements for an interactive environment. All abilities welcome -- no experience necessary. The session will culminate by bringing participants' work together to enhance a familiar social ritual. (Tea will be served.) All electronic crafts can be taken home.
